Baked Ham Recipe with Honey Mustard & Apples
Baked Ham Recipe – The perfect centerpiece for your holiday meal. Slathered with honey mustard ham glaze, stuffed with apples, and baked to perfection!
An Amazing Baked Ham Recipe for Your Holiday Table
Nothing says holiday like pulling a juicy dripping baked ham out of the oven, then setting it on the family table.
Am I right?
After all, a ham isn’t a one-time affair.
It’s a dish you get to enjoy for several days after, extending the holiday spirit as long as possible.
Spiral Baked Ham Recipe With Ham Glaze
Believe it or not, this gorgeous holiday centerpiece, that is actually stuffed with apples, requires only 6 ingredients, including a smoked spiral-cut ham.
Smoked hams are readily available at your local grocery store year-round, and are pre-cooked. So we’re essentially doctoring it and warming it through.
Ingredients for Baked Ham Recipe with Honey Mustard Ham Glaze and Apples:
- Spiral-cut ham (fully cooked ham)
- Granny smith apples
- Whole-grain mustard
- Dijon mustard
- Honey
- Ground cardamom
How To Bake A Ham Instructions…
To fit the standing ham in your oven, remove one oven rack and lower the other rack to the lowest position. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Line a large-rimmed baking sheet with foil and set the spiral ham on top.
Peel and core the apples, then slice them into paper-thin rounds with a sharp knife.
Tuck the apple slices between the slices of ham, skipping a row here and there, and spacing them out all the way around the ham. Once the ham gets too full of apples to hold its shape, turn the ham flat-side-down.
Whisk the mustards, honey, and cardamom together in a small bowl. Brush over the entire surface of the ham. Bake for 1 hour.
Brush the pan juices over the ham, and bake for 1 more hour, until crispy on the outside. Brush the pan juices over the ham again before serving warm.
Stuff It With Apples
All those spiral-cut layers of ham are begging to be filled with something. So today I nestled thinly sliced apples in between them.
As the ham bakes, the apples soften releasing their juices… Making an already juicy ham extra sweet and juicy.
Because the ham is stuffed with apples there is no need for covering the ham with tinfoil while baking. The apples do all the work in keeping the ham moist!
Honey Mustard Ham Glaze
Then I brushed an easy honey mustard glaze over the top. The honey mustard glaze seeps down in between the layers, seasoning the ham, and creating a crispy pork-fat crust that you will not be able to keep your hands off of.
I prefer the flavor and texture of whole-grain mustard, but it should still work with yellow mustard if you can’t find the whole-grain kind.
Perfect for Beginners
If you’ve never made a baked ham before, this easy recipe is where to start. If you have made it before, this just might be the last ham recipe you’ll ever try. It’s…
- Fool-proof
- Impressive to behold
- Smells like pure porky heaven
- And tastes like your new “last meal on death row.”
Frequently Asked Questions
What Should I Serve With This Main Dish?
Imagine an enormous glistening Baked Ham with Honey Mustard and Apples as your table centerpiece this season.
Crispy edges, juicy pork, and sweet baked apples nestled between the slices… What more could you ask for?
Then surround it with homemade rolls, slow cooker stuffing, sweet potato casserole, the best mashed potatoes ever, and a decadent bourbon derby pie. Or serve it in spring with my mom’s perfect potato salad, smoked salmon deviled eggs, savory cheese spinach pie, homemade mac and cheese, and a lemon tart!
This holiday will be tasty, to say the least.
Can I Prepare the Ham the Day Before?
Absolutely! Be sure to either drizzle the apples with lemon juice or coat them with the glaze, so they don’t brown. Then refrigerate until ready to bake.
How Long Do Leftovers Last?

Hi Nancy!
We eat them along with the ham. No need to discard or reuse the apples. :)

I made this for our Easter buffet. It made such a nice presentation and was delicious. My apples didn’t soften up much, next time I may experiment with a different type of apple. Lovely recipe
Delicious ham. I followed the recipe exactly. I will make it again but I will try a sweeter apple, perhaps Macintosh. I found the apples were too tart to be tasty. I also had to put some aluminum foil over the ham the last half hour to prevent too much browning.

Whoa. Made this last night for dinner and had to come back and say how much we loved it!!!
The apples really make this what it is. Loving it!
You think I could do this in the slow cooker??
Hi Amy,
Yes, this is definitely a good slow cooker recipe, if you have one large enough to fit a ham! You could set it on low and let it go all day.
Hey sommer…this is mouthwatering dish..most delicious as well…i can’t wait try to it..thanks for sharing….and keep shared your new amazing recipes…..!
That ham looks positively mouthwatering, can’t wait to try it!
The apples between the slices totally make this recipe. Delicious!
I can’t believe I’ve been so scared to make a ham. You make this so easy and so delicious! Thank you!
Made this for Christmas Eve dinner today. It was the best ham I’ve ever had. All eleven people at our dinner couldn’t stop talking about how good it was! Everyone wanted some to take home. This will be my go to recipe forever more. Thank you.
So, just to clarify, there is no covering this ham in foil during the baking? Also, there is no trimming of any fat? It almost seems to good to be true.
Hi There!
Generally when you buy a spiral-cut ham, the fat is already trimmed off the first time it’s cooked. And because the apples are keeping the slices moist, you do not need to keep it covered.
Where is the rest of the recipe? It seems to stop short at #2. I’ve mad this before and the rest was there.
Thanks!
Hi Jenny,
So sorry about that! We are in the middle of moving our recipes to a new system and there have been some glitches. We are trying to get them all fixed as fast as we can find them. If you see another wonky recipe, please let me know. :)
Any suggestions on how to make this ahead and reheat the next day? I have a 7.5 lb ham 🤗
Hi HB,
With a smoked ham, when you bake it, you are essentially just heating it. You can bake this a day ahead and serve it cold or at room temperature. Yet if you want it hot, just bake it the day you plan to serve it.
We made this today for Easter and not only was it super simple to make, but it was probably the best ham I ever made! Everyone raved about it and went back for at least seconds! To make it even easier we used a mandolin to slice the apples! So glad I found this on Pinterest – I will for sure be making this again!!
Can you put this together the night before you are to cook it?
Just saw a comment asking the same question! It was answered…thanks
Eaasy & guest-worthy recipe! Everyone loves it.
Can I prep the ham the day before?
Hi Happymomma,
Absolutely! Be be sure to either drizzle the apples with lemon juice or coat them with the glaze, so they don’t brown.

Can I use regular yellow mustard instead of whole grain? I have the dijon but I don’t want to buy another mustard that I wouldn’t otherwise use.
Hi Chelsey! I prefer the flavor and texture of whole grain mustard, but it should still work with yellow mustard. If you try it, let me know how it turns out! :)
I made this ham for EASTER. By far the BEST ham I have ever made. My family couldn’t stop talking about how good it was. I caught my son picking out the apples to eat. They were as good as the ham!

What a gorgeous ham Sommer! I would love to serve that on Easter!
Beautiful! one question–is the ham covered in foil at any point of cooking, or uncovered the entire time?
Hi Bobbye! Good question. Leave it uncovered the whole time, so it gets nice and crisp on the outside. :)
My mind is blown – APPLE SLICES!!! That is genius my friend!
That is seriously the most gorgeous looking ham! I love the idea of tucking the apple slices in between the slices.
