Mexican Coffee

Ever had a Mexican Mocha Recipe?

It’s a cafe mocha drink with the addition of rustic spices and spicy heat!

When I step into a coffee shop, it’s the first thing I look for on the menu. This rich blend of coffee and cream with cinnamon, nutmeg, and cayenne pepper makes this warming beverage even more stimulating.

The spices add an extra layer of warming-power that makes my throat tingle and my heart happy.

My recipe today is written for one beverage. Yet, this is a great mix to make in a larger batch for edible gifts this season.

Just imagine packaging up a jar of Mexican Mocha Recipe Mix with some aromatic roasted coffee beans, and a cute little instruction tag.

Who wouldn’t want that?!

Or what about tailgating? Hanging in the parking lot with friends on a chilly autumn day would be much more toasty with a Mexican Mocha in your hands.

Personally, I like to make a large batch of Mexican Coffee Mix to keep in the pantry for rainy days.

  1. I was looking for new coffee recipes to try and landed here. Yesterday I tried making Mexican Mocha with this recipe and it was amazing. I am looking forward to more coffee related recipes from your! Thanks

  2. I first had a Mexican mocha at a wedding with a coffee bar.  Your recipe is sooo good, with the exception that we cut the cayenne to only a rounded 1/4 tsp to reduce the hefty kick to just a slight tingle, which matches what we had.  LOVE the cinnamon and nutmeg!  Have saved the recipe for the future!!

  6. The Mexican Mocha Recipe is my all-time favorite recipe. I have tried many different coffee grinders, but the Portable Coffee Grinder is the best for all recipes. The grinder is small and easy to use, and it makes a perfect grind for Mexican Mocha. The coffee grounds are evenly ground, and there is no waste. The grinder is also very affordable, and it is a great value for the money.

  7. Spices are my favorite when it comes to food! So pretty!

  8. Hi!!! My spice is too coarse it seems. I physically get the spice in my drink. What type/brand are you all using so it’ll easily dissolve and not still be physically present but I only taste the flavor profile not the actual grainy spice. Thanks!!!

  9. I am curious to know if I can use a sugar substitute for powdered sugar? Otherwise this was amazing!

    • Hi Moe,

You can! However, depending on what sugar substitute you like to use, you will have to experiment a little with the proportions. They are not all equal swaps for granulated or powdered sugar, but they do usually have a pretty good guide on the packaging.

  12. Very nice! I’ve tried other recipes and this has been the most flavorful. Thank you!

  13. I’m sorry if I missed it, but if you make a batch, what is the serving size (how much of the mix do you add to coffee/cream)?

    • Hi Ann!

This is an older recipe, so we probably need to update and clarify…

If making a large batch, it makes enough mix for 8 servings. 3 tablespoons of mix should be added to 6 oz coffee + 1 + 3 tablespoons of cream. So it should equal approximately 1 cup per serving. :)

  14. Too spicy! my palette is not made for this, will probably try doubling the cinnamon.

  15. its look so delicious

  16. Yes, that’s looks so DELICIOUS!

  20. Oooooweeeee!! I made this and added it to my morning coffee routine. My husband will not have coffee any other way now! Perfect, perfect, perfect!! I always have a jar of this available, and made jars for my three adult children. Thank you. This is a winner!! I live in Western Pennsylvania, and it warms me up on chilly mornings. Reminds me of the Mexican mocha drinks I enjoyed souring my Air Force days, stationed in Oklahoma City. Wonderful!!!

  21. It’s great! It’s really easy and perfect for what I wanted. I added a bit more cayenne cause I love extra spice. When you take a sip you’re immediately greeted with a blast of cinnamon then the spice hits your throat after you swallow, accentuating the more subtle spice of the cinnamon. It’s kind of like magic. It feels like a Harry Potter potion. The cocoa brings it all together really well. This is how I’m making my coffee from now on.

  22. Yes I made it. 😳 My taste preferences must be different than yours. I was hoping to copy a coffee shop recipe I had tried last week. It was sweeter and had less pepper kick to it. I love this, though, because it gives me a guideline to start with and now I can tweak it the way I need it to be for my taste preferences. Thank you.

  23. If you make this with the espresso shots, do you add water to top up your mug?

  24. Delicious! I’ve tried other recipes and this has been the most flavorful. Thank you!

  25. I made a batch omitting the Cocoa Powder and the Powdered Sugar, I replaced it with Sugar-Free French Vanilla Coffee Creamer Powder and 1 Cup of Splenda with 3 Tablespoons of Corn Starch I used Evaporated Milk in place of Heavy Cream/ 1/2&1/2… And Decaffeinated Coffee…WOW!!! Delicious!!!

  26. Made a double shot of espresso in my Nespresso. Good, but but too sweet. Will try again, next time cutting back on the powdered sugar.
