Instant Pot Shrimp Pasta with Vodka Sauce
Instant Pot Shrimp Pasta with Vodka Sauce – A simple Penne alla Vodka recipe demonstrating How to Cook Pasta in a Pressure Cooker.
Instant Pots are supposed to make life easier, right?
Less countertop appliances are needed, because they take the place of a pressure cooker, slow cooker, and even a stovetop or hot plate.
Plus, Instant Pot recipes should required less cook time and pot watching.
Yet so many of the digital pressure cooker recipes I find online are challenging. They require a long list of ingredients and much more time than expected.
Today I’m sharing a super easy Instant Pot Shrimp Pasta with Vodka Sauce recipe that will eliminate your fears and frustrations of pulling out the Instant Pot.
This simple Shrimp Pasta with Vodka Sauce is a classic combination you can make on the stovetop. Yet I will say, using an Instant Pot does reduce dish washing and time.
Another benefit is that cooking pasta in the Instant Pot, right in the sauce, infuses the sauce’s flavors into the pasta for a richer concentrate taste!
Our Instant Pot Shrimp Pasta with Vodka Sauce offers bold zesty flavor, a luxuriously creamy sauce, and perfectly cooked pasta and shrimp… In minutes.
In my opinion, that alone is worth pulling out the IP!
How Long Do You Cook Pasta In The Instant Pot? (Or Pressure Cooker)
So just how long does it take to cook pasta in the Instant pPot?
In most cases, just 4 minutes on the Pressure Cook High setting will turn out perfect al dente pasta.
The key is to add just enough water or liquid, that you don’t have to drain the pasta at the end, yet the “burn notice” does not turn off your Instant Pot while cooking.
This does vary a little based on the other ingredients in the recipe, how much moisture they contain, and if they are going in the pot before or after the pasta is cooked.
What Is Vodka Cream Sauce?
Vodka Sauce is a spicy marinara or tomato sauce, with a generous dose of heavy creamy blended in at the end of cooking, to provide a rich silky taste and texture.
The cream also neutralizes the spicy, so it’s spicy but not overbearing.
What Does Vodka Sauce Go With?
Honestly, I can’t imagine anything that would not taste better with a bit of vodka sauce. We’ve served it over steaks and lamb, with gnocchi, and even with roasted asparagus.
However Penne alla Vodka is a beloved classic combination.
If you don’t eat seafood, you can skip the shrimp altogether, or through in some Italian sausage to round out the dish!
Our pressure cooker version of Penne alla Vodka, Instant Pot Shrimp Pasta with Vodka Sauce, is simple and straight forward, but tastes ostentatious. That’s a win-win in my book!

I saved this recipe forever ago, hoping to try it. It was delicious! 10/10 would recommend! I did add a tad more crushed red pepper, as we like a bit more spice and some lemon zest. Maybe 1/3 of a lemon. Definitely will make again!

Do I need to double the time if I am doubling the recipe?
Hi Yena,
No, with pressure cooking you stick with the same cooking times. However, a double recipe will only fit in your IP if you have the very largest size, 8 quarts I believe. Happy Cooking!
Is frozen shrimp ok or should they be thawed first?
Hi Nora,
If the shrimp is frozen add a minute or two to the cooking time. :)

I’ve made this twice. It is very tasty and so quick to make. I used whole grain penne and it came out just fine. It’s the perfect meal when you just don’t have the energy to cook dinner.
I read it’s not safe to pressure cook with liquor. A little wine or beer is ok but liquor is to be avoided.
I followed up your comment and did a little research. Thanks for posting. I never thought about it before now. However, with this recipe, I think the addition of 3 cups of water and a 28 ounce can of tomatoes with liquid balances out the half cup of vodka. I’ve made it twice without any problem.
I halved the recipe exactly and did it on the stove top. It was good, but I found the sauce too runny. Then I added some tomato paste (1/3 small can) and another 1/4 c of cream. (Remember, this is for half the receipe) Now it’s perfect. I like the thicker and more tomato sauce. Just personal taste. I’ll have leftovers tomorrow night. Thanks for the recipe.
Another delicious shrimp pasta recipe for the Instant pot. Will definitely make again. Just a note, your video does not include the addition of the cream at the end but knew from the recipe to add it.
My husband and I made this tonight for the first time and we are very impressed! We give it five stars! Thanks for sharing! I’m looking forward to eating leftovers and making it again.

Hi Sommer,
Due to an allergy to shrimp, can this be prepared without or possibly with chicken? If so, can you provide revised directions please? I ADORE vodka sauce!
Hi Debbie!
Yes, you can definitely make it without shrimp. If you want to add in chicken, cut it into small chunks and throw it in with the pasta to pressure cook! :)
Cooked chicken or raw?
Hi Laura!
If you add the chicken in before pressure cooking, add raw chicken. Otherwise, you can stir cooked chicken in at the end.
You had me at vodka sauce! Thanks for the recipe
This pasta with shrimp recipe looks incredible, a must try!
What a great recipe to switch up weeknight dinners. Thanks for a great recipe!
Can’t wait to try this. It looks fabulous!
Made this rather quickly tonight. Was very creamy and yummy but I will be adding more spices to add some flavour. Definitely a winner though. I added some scallops and some spinach – actually looked very fancy and made me wish I had some people over to share it with!
nice recipe, thank you love the vodka infusion!

I imagine we can make the sauce in the slow cooker with the shrimp, and then make the noodles right before serving… right!?!?!? :D
I have never heard of vodka sauce. Thank you for sharing the recipe! I have a big pack of shrimp, I guess I will try this recipe very soon.
