My Shenandoah Cabinetry Experience
Our new kitchen cabinets have been ordered!!!! It was a hard decision and I’m so thankful for all your input. You guys know A LOT about cabinetry.Â
Apparently you’ve done this a time or two?
Well after going back and forth about the style and color of our new Shenandoah Cabinets, we decided the new ASP Kitchen will have Mission style cabinetry in Maple Linen.
Like this…
and this.
Although I love the dark espresso tones and ultra modern door styles, we felt the Mission Maple cabinetry was the most transitional. With a fresh modern feel, that would still look natural in our older home. Plus my kitchen doubles as a photography studio, so I need as much light bouncing around as possible. The “linen” white cabinets will keep the kitchen light and airy.
I’ll save the glass and hardware choices for the big reveal. In the meantime, let me tell you about the Shenandoah Cabinetry experience.
Shenandoah Cabinetry is sold exclusively at Lowe’s. So after looking at all the options and ideas online, the easiest way to get started is to walk straight into the Lowe’s Kitchen Project Center.
You will find a large display of Shenandoah Cabinetry samples with all the door styles, color options, glass styles, and hardware. That way, you can put your hands on them and see how they look close up.
They also have Shenandoah Cabinetry mock-kitchens on display so you can oooooh and ahhhhh over the soft-close feature on the drawers and cabinet doors and see many of the storage solutions first-hand.
When you’ve made up your mind about the style of Shenandoah Cabinetry you like best, you simply measure your kitchen (or have Lowe’s send someone to measure for you) then take your measurements back to the Kitchen Project Center.
Lt. Dan used graph paper to draw out our current kitchen, isn’t he cute?
He thought it would make it easier for the designer.
The professional kitchen designers will work with you to make your dream kitchen come alive.
They will find the absolute best configuration, so it looks gorgeous and has ample storage. They can also help you select placement for glass door cabinetry, special storage options and trim.
When you are finished you’ll have layouts and renderings of your new kitchen so you can show all your friends. It’s kind of like showing them baby pictures and wedding videos.
They. Love. It.
Once you place your order, BAM! A few weeks later you have fabulous new Shenandoah Cabinetry at your doorstep, ready to install.
This process is much less painful than you might think. In fact, it’s pretty fun.
Here’s my Shenandoah Cabinetry Kitchen Design. What do you think?
I can’t wait to have it installed and show you the after-shots. It’s going to be beautiful!!
You can visit Shenandoah Cabinetry on Facebook, Houzz, YouTube and Twitter.
Disclosure: Shenandoah Cabinetry is providing gorgeous new cabinets for my kitchen makeover project. All opinions are my own.
I just finished a kitchen, very expensive, purchased upgrades and the quality of the cabinets Shenandoah is no producing is awful, NOTHING like the 10 year old display in Lowes. Â I could have gotten the same cheap quality kitchen for half the price. Â
Hi, this post came up when i searched for shenandoah mission cabinets as i am looking at them for my kitchen. did you ever post pics of the final? any particular advice you would give on this brand and lowe’s ? thanks!
We decided to replace the cabinets in our new house this past year as opposed to refinishing the existing cabinets. I had to really persuade my husband as it was a big expense, over $8000. We saw the Shenandoah white shaker sample cabinet at Lowe’s and the rep told us it was a pretty good cabinet, not the lowest grade option.
When the cabinets arrived, EVERY SINGLE piece was flawed. Chips, divets, scratches, parts not painted properly, raw edges, etc.
There were 32 damaged areas. Yup, 32.
I cried, literally. Lowes was trying to help us and had ordered some replacement doors and side panels for us. The replacements came in and every one of those were also flawed.
We had gone to Lowes to buy the cheap stock white shaker cabinets that are in stock on the shelf for our laundry room. Diamond brand I believe. To our surprise, those 3 cabinets were pristine! Not one single flaw! This infuriated us because we could have easily bought these cheaper stock cabinets for our kitchen remodel, spent half of what we spent on the Shenandoah, and had beautiful perfect looking cabinets in our new house. Instead, we are stuck looking at cheap flawed garbage cabinets everytime we walk into our kitchen.
How I WISH I had read reviews before proceeding with our purchase.
The worst part is that Shenandoah fought with us and did not give us 1 penny back for the overpriced cabinets we bought from them. They even sent their own rep to our house with the Lowes sales associate to see the condition of the cabinets first hand.
Do NOT, I repeat, do NOT buy Shenandoah cabinets.
I hope someone at the company reads this.
Wish my kitchen makeover with lowes and Shenandoah were as positive as yours…
Hi, We are looking at these cabinets as well, did you opt for the furniture board construction for the cabinet boxes or all plywood?
Just recieved the same cabinets today and when we opened them, noticed that almost all of the joints are visible in the front. Did you have the same issue? We are having a sales rep come to the house to inspect them. So bummed! Our were the maple linen as well and they said that b/c they are painted wood, the joints are more visible. Doesn’t sound right to me….and I’m talking VISIBLE…like jagged line visible.
Hi Summer, They warned me that because the cabinets were real wood, there could be a some pieces warped or damaged in shipping. I did get a couple doors that needed to be replaced, but they came in quickly, so it didn’t slow down the process. You can see the joints on some of mine, but just barely. They don’t look damaged or unsightly. Actually they look like they are supposed to be that way. Hopefully when the sales rep comes out it will all be cleared up!
I was just wondering where your finished kitchen photos are? We already had Lowe’s interior designer come out last week with the contractor…very impressed with them and are now awaiting the estimate. Keeping our fingers crossed that it’s within our budget. We picked out the Shenandoah winchester- maple auburn glaze. We’ve been in our home for 15 years (20 year old home) with pretty low quality cabinetry….can hardly wait to have ours done!!!!
Hi Sommer! As I was researching Shenandoah cabinets your blog came up. I see you ordered in March. Would you mind letting me know what you think of them now that they are installed and you have been using them for a few months. Your feedback would be greatly appreciated!
Sincerely,
Susan
Hi Susan, I LOVE my cabinets. They are so beautiful and sturdy and the extra storage options we selected are a life-saver!
Sommer – I love your kitchen design! It is a daunting task choosing cabinets, countertops, etc. my house is over 100 years old. I went to Lowes and they are very knowledgeable ! Never tried to sell me extras, etc. yesterday the designer came to lay out the space. I chose Shenandoah natural hickory bead board. Can’t wait to go to the store and see what they came up with!

I cannot wait to see the unveiling of your new, gorgeous kitchen!! Major envy here, can you sense ;)
Have Shenandoah Cabinets too and love the job my kitchen designer did from Lowe’s. Lowe’s is a top notch company. If something comes in wrong, or goes wrong with your cabinets, they take care of you no questions asked. Unlike the “other” big box Home improvement company! My kitchen is also in an older house, and had a lot of challenges to get it right. Between my installer, and the designer at Lowe’s, and my original design (also on graph paper), it turned out AWESOME! I love it! Your’s looks like it will be awesome too! Shenandoah is an awesome semi custom company!
So many choices. I can’t wait to see what it looks like in!
What fun Sommer!! I can’t wait to see how your kitchen turns out!!
I can’t wait to see the after pictures. I think the layout is great. Now if the guys will just start working in my kitchen again, lol. It’s at a a standstill right now.
I love it! It’s beautiful!!
I love it Sommer!! I love them linen finsh in the Mission style…..it will look so clean & compliment everything you are photographing. I love the layout as well!! What a blessing this new kitchen will be to ASP!
Thanks Kristin,
There are so many hidden variables in designing a new kitchen in a rickety-old house. I think the design turned out wonderful, even with countless obstacles. :)
Oooooo…it’s gonna be just gorgeous!!
This looks so beautiful! I cannot WAIT to see how things turn out! :)
Sommer, the layout is terrible! There are so many things I wish you had done differently! Why are the double wall ovens so close to the sink? They should have gone across the room and you should have more counter to the right of your sink (it looks like barely 12″!). I would have had the same size wall cabinets on either side of the window for symmetry. The different heights make no sense either – if you are going to do that, it needs to be balanced. And if that taller corner wall cabinet is not deeper than the cabinets on either side of it, you are going to have a problem installing your crown moulding. I would have made the pantry to the left of the fridge narrower, and given yourself another larger pantry on the far wall. That way, you could have had more counter to the left of your sink also. All that counter on the far wall looks nice, but in reality, you will probably do all your prep work near the sink and at the island. Some of the taller cabinets (pantry, double ovens, etc) could have gone on that far wall and you could have had way more prep space where you will actually need it. Lowes does not have certified kitchen designers, and it shows!
awesome! Love this
Holy gorgeousness, Sommer. I love the idea of designing my own kitchen. Someday…
Great choice, I can’t wait to see the final results!
I’m so jealous! It’s going to be gorgeous! Can’t wait to see it all come together!
Can you feel the envy all the way from Australia?? What a gorgeous kitchen you’ve designed!
Those are the ones I would have chosen too! You have great taste ;) Can’t wait to see the final product…
Thanks for the kitchen inspiration! We were just in lowes over the weekend–picking out a vanity and floor tile for our bathroom. You have given us something to look forward to.
So exciting! Love how you broke the process down, so interesting to see how it works step by step!! Can’t wait to see more on this! :)
Love what you chose!! Those are exactly like the cabinets we are putting in our new kitchen but my insanely over ambitious husband is building them. He already has a few finished and I can’t wait to see them installed!!! Your kitchen is going to be beautiful!
Thanks Shanna, it’s so hard to choose, but I know I’ll be extremely happy when it’s finished!
How fun! It’s going to look beautiful.
Very pretty! White cabinets in the kitchen are my favorite, too!
It’s going to be gorgeous when your kitchen is done! Congrats!! :)
Can’t wait to see the transformation!!!!!!
