Banana Pudding Milkshake
An Old Fashioned Banana Pudding Milkshake Recipe with chunks of cookie and fresh bananas throughout!
This Banana Pudding Milkshake was designed with one purpose in mind, to make my little guy smile.
We have a family tradition that on special occasions, like celebrating a sparkling report card or taking off the training wheels on a bike, we go to a local burger joint and get a milkshake. It’s our little way of marking the achievement and spending time together. Daddy and daughter always get Oreo Mint Chip Milkshakes and my son and I always get a Banana Pudding Milkshake.
ALWAYS.
I am no great expert on anything, but one thing I have learned over the last fourteen years of parenting is that quality time with your children comes out of ample quantity time.
It cannot be fabricated or shoved into the short increments we designate for it. Quality time happens in luminous flashes… While spending hours working, playing, and talking together.
We live in a society that celebrates over-doing. People talk about their great capacity to multi-task as if they’ve won a gold medal. So often our jobs, or the people around us, place expectations on us that battle our convictions. We take on more and more responsibilities out of guilt, or in an effort to “stay in the game.”
Yet really, this only promotes an unbalanced lifestyle of putting unimportant things first, leaving little time at the end of the day for the people that make our lives worth living.
Who pays the price for our hectic lifestyle? Who misses out on the memory making and teachable moments when we are too busy to put down our cellphones and laptops to walk to the park?
The unspoken message tauntingly blares at our children; they are not as important as our meeting, our schedule, our favorite TV show, our next phone call.
Most truly special moments, in which my husband and I were able to impart something of value that we know our children will never forget, came from doing the little things as a family. Throwing the ball in the backyard, reading stories, baking cookies, even folding the laundry together.
These moments are irreplaceable, and most certainly weren’t conjured up.
They just happened.
In the crazy world we live in, I make it my goal everyday to take family time seriously.
Sometimes I fail.
Then I look in the faces of my babies 12 and 14 year old and remember, what a short time I have to hold them, and teach them the things they need to know in order to live full and healthy lives. My prayer is that I do not squander that time for anything.
COOK’S NOTES:
This Banana Pudding Milkshake Recipe is in honor of my son, a hardcore Banana Pudding Milkshake lover. It’s simple to make and simply divine. A sure-fire way to brighten anyone’s day and let them know they are a priority in your life!
I used both vanilla ice cream and vanilla pudding for the base of the banana pudding shake, because I felt the shake needed the extra umph from the pudding to create the classic banana pudding flavor.

Sommer this Banana pudding recipe is fantastic! Please let the LT. Bailey ‘s makes a great Mother’s day rendition.🥳 Please have a happy Mother’s day SUGAR !!!🥳🥳😘
The recipe sounds absolutely yummy, but I have to tell you I was so moved by your message about “quality” and “quantity” time and you hit the nail on the head. There is nothing so important as those we love. We all have 24 hours in a day: only we can choose how to spend them. You will never regret for a moment the time you spent with your little ones that in no time at all will be on their own and you will wonder where that time went. Live with no regrets, always make time for a hug, or kiss a boo-boo, a smile or an encouraging word, or time spent doing what they enjoy. They will one day look back at those moments and cherish them as much as you do!
Yum!
Your little guy has great taste! My favorite dessert is banana pudding and what could be better? A banana pudding milkshake!!!! This is going in my to make box!!
Thank you!

I didn’t know banana pudding was “a thing” until I lived with a girl from North Carolina. Since then, I have been to NC three times and can’t get enough banana pudding. I went to an ice cream place in NC that made banana pudding milkshakes, but they didn’t have full slices of banana and vanilla waffers like yours. I am craving one of these now!
SO true Sommer, my babies are growing more and more each day..time is flying by and I have felt the wear of being pulled many ways. Time to slow down and enjoy the sweet things in life, this would be a great way to sip the day away with my girls. lovely post!
Looks so good, craving this right now.
I love banana anything, especially banana desserts! YUM!
Wow this banana pudding milkshake looks yummy! I will have to make a homemade version of this soon. I’m not crazy about using store-bought pudding, and I love my homemade vanilla ice cream. YUM! Thanks for sharing this idea!
I so love banana pudding – and the idea of a banana pudding milkshake is blowing my mind! This looks awesome! And your straws are so cute! Your little guy has good taste in milkshakes!
Great recipe! Love that you have banana’s in it!
Oooh now, that sounds like a wonderful shake! :) Gotta love banana.
YUM, YUM, YUM!!! I love anything that involves bananas! Cannot wait to make this – looks so delicious!
These milkshakes are absolutely brilliant! They must taste incredible judging by your gorgeous photos!
Ooo, I so want that!
What a wonderful post and treat for a banana lover! Lovely clicks, Sommer.
How right you are! Life goes by so quickly. Our children grow up and leave home. They start families of their own. Yet it seems like just yesterday we were taking them for their first day of school. And, yes, I’m convinced that all the distractions of our technologically focused lives do take away from relationships. That’s why I sometimes take a whole weekend and just unplug. No computer, no smart phone – just relax, read a book, cook something new. It helps me to re-focus on what’s really important.
Oh, and … what a fantastic milkshake!! You know this Southern girl has to give anything with “banana pudding” in the title a try!
Looks like a banana cream pie in drinkable form!!! YUM! And excellent reminder to savor the time with our families…my youngest will be heading off to college in the fall…sniff, sniff….so I totally agree with your message!

I have bananas but not the rest of the ingredients :( too bad, this milkshake looks great..
Love these milkshakes with the pudding inside they are so yummy. True incite on quality time with kids and family.
Cool, creamy, comforting in a cool glass. What more can one ask for in a dessert?
Beautiful post Sommer. It is incredible how time flies even faster as my kids get older. I treasure every day, every word spoken because I know their time at home is growing shorter. You are wise to know this already. I was working full time when my kids were your age and miss those moments…but I think your Banana Milkshake might make up for it.
Awesome! Love this and have to give it a try!
Beautifully written post, Sommer! It’s so true, we get so caught up in the day-to-day. Thanks for the reminder to slow down!
Holy cow, I’ve never even had banana pudding — I think of it, with those Nilla wafers, as a Southern specialty — but I would be all over this milkshake.
Oh my YUM!!! I love any treat with bananas:-) What a perfect treat to make for you son! Hugs, Terra
What a nice post! Love this milkshake especially the Nilla wafers in it.
How do I get in on this family??? I love this tradition!
You are so right about time with the kids and your milkshake looks fabulous! What a great Momma you are!
Though I don’t have kids yet, I can definitely feel how quickly life seems to pass us by. I feel like it passes so much more quickly since we spend so much time in front of the TV, the computer, the laptop…it’s so important to take pause and just turn everything off to get out and enjoy life! I know that memorable moments that’ve happened between my husband and I haven’t occurred while I’m staring at my laptop, that’s for sure!
I love this milkshake! It’s so reminiscent of banana pudding, one of my favorite treats to make for the hubs. He’s obsessed with bananas, and I’d probably be his favorite ever if I whipped one of these up! Lovely! And thank you so much for including my blueberry pie milkshake in your roundup! <3
Love your words here. I look at my kids everyday thinking the very same thing. Time is precious.
Love the shake and I would kill for it for dessert tonight :)
You have inspired me to treat my fam to some milkshakes very soon!!!
This milkshake is fabulous! Awesome idea!!
Today would have been the perfect day for one of these. Looks fabulous!
Yum!!! Love this shake!
So clever, Sommer. I’ve never thought of making a shake with pudding. A must try.
