Drinking Caramel Recipe
Love a warm steaming mug of drinking chocolate? Then you must try today’s Drinking Caramel Recipe, a silky caramelized dessert in a mug!
Ok, guys. I’m dying. Dying, over today’s recipe.
If you’ve ever tried thick luxurious drinking chocolate, (As in, the cousin of hot chocolate, but much more intense.) you are going to want to kiss my face when you taste my Drinking Caramel Recipe.
That’s right. Rich creamy caramel… That you sip.
The next time you entertain, instead of slaving over appetizers, dinner, and an elaborate dessert, why not focus on the savory stuff.
Then make a quick batch of Drinking Caramel to pour into espresso cups for a lavish liquid dessert that takes only 10 minutes to make!
This Drinking Caramel Recipe is thick and creamy with a touch of salt, yet not as dense as caramel sauce, so you can sip away.
It’s satisfying, even in small shot-sized portions. That way you won’t break your calorie bank, so to speak.
You can also add a nip of your favorite liquor for kicks and giggles. (I would go with bourbon.)
Or swirl it with homemade drinking chocolate for a steaming chocolate-caramel sensation!
To make this Drinking Caramel Recipe, start with Wholesome!™ Organic Light Brown Sugar and a little water. Boil the sugar to dissolve the crystals and develop a deep caramel flavor.
I love using Wholesome!™ sweeteners in desserts. They allow me to feel good about serving clean chemical-free non-gmo recipes to my friends and family, even in treat form!
Once the boiling liquified sugar has deep toasted aroma, whisk in cream, sea salt, and vanilla extract.
Simmer another couple minutes to thicken and… Viola!
Silky, indulgent, liquid caramel that you just cannot get enough of.
Consider making it for Valentine’s Day this year. Imagine you and your sweetie sitting by the fire with little mugs of Drinking Caramel in hand.
Sexy.

Drinking Caramel Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 cup Wholesome!™ Organic Light Brown Sugar
- 2 tablespoons water
- 3 cups heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon sea salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Place the Wholesome!™ Organic Light Brown Sugar in a large deep sauté pan. Add the water and turn the heat on medium. Bring the sugar to a low boil. Allow the sugar to boil until it darkens to a deep brown and smells toasted, 5-7 minutes.
- Slowly, carefully, whisk in the heavy cream. The sugar will boil up at first, then firm up, but will eventually loosen and blend into the cream.
- Add the salt and vanilla extract. Stir and simmer another 2-3 minutes to thicken. Ladle into espresso cups and serve warm.

Hi Somer,
This sounds great and I really want to make it!
I have a question:
Does it have to be made fresh or can I prepare it in advance?
Can I prepare it today and reheat it tomorrow before serving? Will it keep it’s liquid texture?
Hi Yael,
You can definitely make it ahead. Just keep it refrigerated in an air-tight container. :)
This is so delicious, I have always wanted a way to drink caramel:) Your recipes are amazing, and this is my favorite one (caramel is my favorite food though lol)

SOUNDS SCRUMCIOUS! I GOTTA TRY!:) THANK YOU.
Omg this is a thing! Yesterday I was wishing for a thick, hot drink, on the order of a shake… But hot! This definitely hit the spot. Unsurprising, since sipping chocolate is ALSO one of my favourite drinks. Now I have two under my belt for those indulgent winter days. Thanks!
Made this tonight for company for coffee and ended up drizzling some over the tremisu for a bit more color. OMG what a treat. Thank you
Your drinking chocolate and caramel are too dangerous!
MMM drinking caramel with bourbon is my kind of party!
I NEED this after skiing today!!
Where do you purchase the cute little cups? This looks truly delicious!
Hi Carol – They are espresso mugs that I found at a kitchen supply store locally.
Here is something similar: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005CINWE6/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B005CINWE6&linkCode=as2&tag=aspiper-20&linkId=Y6WNEGQZBZXWIVCE

Just made this, OMG! It is truly delicious. Heaven in a tiny cup.
Nadia – Thanks so much for coming back to share. So glad you liked it!!
This is something I can totally get behind! Pass me a cup!
I would slurp this right up!
Love the sound of drinking caramel! How decadently good!
Sinful!
I’ll gladly take two of these cups! PINNED!
I love caramel…and this looks fabulous. However, I’ve recently found out I’m allergic to dairy..,wondering if this would work with the milk alternatives (almond milk, cashew milk, etc.)???
Deidra – I haven’t tried that, but based on past experiments I would try thick canned coconut milk first.
I love this! I am not a fan of chocolate but do love caramel. Definitely making.
Oh my gosh, delight in the cup. 5 oz of this drinking carmel has 470 kcal. I wish I didn’t know that! But still it’s worth to drink. Now I just need to run for an hour :)
LOL! Dorota, if it’s any consolation, the cups you see in the images are 1 oz espresso cups. This is definitely a splurge recipe. :)
