Serving Suggestions

Avocado sauce is the ideal topping for tacos! Here are some of our favorite avocado crema-worthy taco recipes:

Or keep things super simple with a corn or flour tortilla with your choice of cooked meat, and add a generous dollop of avocado cream sauce on top. And it’s delightful as an alternative (or additional) dressing on taco salads and burrito bowls.

It’s also a delicious sauce to enjoy on Crispy Patatas Bravas (Mexican Potatoes), Huevos Rancheros, Sopes, Pulled Pork Nachos, Shrimp Quesadillas, and Nacho Hot Dogs (yup, they’re a real thing and they are ah-may-zing)… The list goes on and on!

Plus, this creamy avocado sauce makes a terrific dip alongside tortilla chips and veggies for a tasty snack or party food.

Basically, you can use this fantastic crema to complement nearly any savory dish!

Pro Tip: To get that lovely piped look, like in the photos below, scoop the crema into a piping bag or a plastic zipper bag and snip the corner to make a tip. Gently squeeze as you zig-zag from one end of the dish to the other. Enjoy!

Frequently Asked Questions

Is avocado sauce the same as guacamole?

Not quite. While they are both use avocado as a base, crema and guacamole are very different. Guacamole is purely mashed avocado with lime juice and spices (and sometimes other goodies, too). Avocado cream sauce includes sour cream as well, so it’s super rich and, well, creamy!

How do you keep avocado sauce fresh in the fridge?

The sour cream and lime juice will help retain the green color of the crema. However, itโ€™s not a bad idea to press a piece of plastic wrap down over the top of the crema before covering it with a lid.

How long does homemade crema with avocados keep well?

It tastes freshest when enjoyed the day it is made. However, avocado cream will keep well for up to 5 days in the refrigerator, if covered well. Give it a good stir before serving.

Can I freeze avocado cream sauce?

I don’t recommend freezing this sauce. While you technically can, the texture will be way off after thawing.
