Can I tell you a little secret?

When I’m entertaining, I like to shock my party guests a bit with the menu I serve.

If were having a casual get-together, like a sports event or yard party, I like to serve dishes that are a slightly more elegant than expected.

However, if we’re having a dinner party or wine tasting, I like to serve dishes that are slightly more casual than expected. (Like glammed-up burgers or chicken pot pie.)

I do this for a few reasons…

One, when we have a dinner party, everyone always expects my food to be outrageously elegant because I cook for a living. They come over expecting to have to be on their best behavior. Serving casual dishes puts people as ease, and acts as a conversation starter.

Two, when we’re having a causal get-together, I get tired of the same ol’ chicken wings and cheese dip. Don’t you?

Three, giving people what they aren’t expecting, makes the event more memorable!

Bagels may not seem like a fancy food. Yet, I’ve discovered you can dress them up to fit any occasion.

These simple 5-Ingredient Bagel Bites with Steak and Blue Cheese walk the line of casual and elegant. They start with tender Thomas’ Mini Bagels that have been toasted to golden perfection.

Then I topped each half with a fresh basil leaf, grilled rib eye steak, and shards of pungent blue cheese.

I drizzled thick balsamic glaze over the top, so that each 5-Ingredient Bagel Bites with steak and blue cheese, is kissed with tangy sweetness.
