 Carolina Red Slaw Recipe, complements of the famed Okie Dokies Smokehouse in Asheville, North Carolina. The absolute BEST red slaw recipe in the south!

Instructions

  • Chop the cabbage into thin strips and place in a large bowl.
  • In a separate bowl mix the rest of the ingredients until smooth. Pour over the cabbage and mix well. Allow the red slaw to sit in the fridge for several hours.

  1. Sounds interesting but can you use something other than ketchup which is typically made with sugar. How about a home made tomato paste or simply cooked tomatoes with some herbs/salt/pepper. The recipe already calls for vinegar.

  2. I have had this a few times in TX ….. My wife does not like ketchup AT ALL but , she loves this slaw !!! So easy to make

  3. I did a couple tweaks you might enjoy. I used 1/2 ketchup and 1/2 BBQ sauce and 1/2 tarragon vinegar and 1/2 apple cider vinegar. For us the tarragon addition is a game changer!!

  4. First time I have heard of red slaw being with ketchup. Every since I been in NC all red slaw has been with BBQ sauce. This is different for sure.

  5. Yum! I live for coleslaw in the Summer so will definitely be trying this fun new take.
