Why We Love This Blueberry Sauce Recipe

Nothing. NOTHING. Tastes better on vanilla ice cream than warm blueberry sauce.

Made with fresh summer berries, this simple topping takes less than ten minutes to prepare, yet makes all the difference on your desserts!

I cook this Warm Blueberry Sauce all year long with frozen blueberries. However, it’s always best in the summer time when blueberries are ripe and juicy.

Warm Blueberry Sauce is fabulous over pound cake, custard pies, and creamy desserts like panna cotta and flan.

How to Make Warm Blueberry Sauce

Place fresh blueberries, sugar, lemon juice, a little cornstarch, and salt in a saucepan.

Bring to a boil and simmer for a few minutes until the blueberries burst and the sauce thickens. The mixture should coat the back of a spoon nicely without falling right off.

You can also add lavender buds (or leaves) to the blueberry sauce to give it that little extra something!

Serving Suggestions

There is nothing that this homemade blueberry sauce doesn’t go with! First and foremost, you must pair it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or coconut ice cream. It is to die for! You can also try pairing it with some of my personal favorites:

You can even sweeten up your breakfast by drizzling this blueberry sauce on oatmeal, yogurt, or to complement a bagel and cream cheese!

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I made this dessert fruit sauce with different fruits?

Absolutely! I would stick to berries like blackberries, raspberries or strawberries. If you use blackberries or raspberries, you will want to strain the sauce through a fine mesh sieve in order to remove the large seeds!

How should I store leftovers?

Store any leftover fruit sauce in an airtight container in the fridge for up to one week. It also freezes well!
