Nachos + Dogs = Palate Euphoria. For both kids and adults alike, these summertime nacho dogs are a bound to be a hit!
You can make your nacho cheese dog exactly how you like it, piling it high with all your favorite toppings! From salsa to guac or extra crunchy tortilla chips, this nacho dog recipe has the perfect combination of flavors and textures.
Ingredients You Need
- Hot Dogs – Or Polish sausages. For a lean meat version, use turkey dogs!
- Hot Dog Buns
- Tortilla Chips – You can use regular tortilla chips or blue corn tortilla chips!
- Mexican Cheese Blend
- Fresh Salsa – Use your favorite store-bought salsa or make a homemade version!
- Guacamole – When it comes to guacamole, fresh guac is definitely best.
- Sour Cream – Or crema Mexicana, also known as table cream.
- Cilantro – Fresh cilantro is the perfect garnish!
How to Make The Best Nacho Dog
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Place the hot dogs in the buns and place them on a baking sheet. Pile 1/2 cup crumbled chips on top of each hot dog, followed by a heaping 1/4 cup of shredded cheese. Bake for 5-8 minutes, until the cheese is melty and the hot dogs are warmed through. Buns will be golden brown and warm!
Top each dog with salsa, guacamole, crema Mexicana or sour cream, and cilantro. Serve warm and enjoy!
Serving Suggestions
Serve your nacho dog as is with your favorite toppings and some side dishes! Any side dishes you would usually serve with hot dogs (or nachos) would go great here. Here are some of my personal favorites:
- Shoestring Fries
- Chili Cheese Fries
- Air Fryer Tater Tots
- Zucchini Tots
- Corn on the Cob
- Mexican Pinto Beans
- Roasted Vegetable Medley
Recipe Variations
- Toppings: The toppings on your nacho dog are really up to you. If you are serving a crowd, maybe set out some extra topping options like diced red onion, jalapeno peppers, diced plum tomatoes, ripe hass avocados, or nacho cheese sauce! I also like to serve these with a lime wedge to brighten things up a little!
- Spice Level: Take things up a notch on the spice level with pickled or fresh jalapeรฑo peppers, or serve with some hot sauce!
- Vegetarian Version: Make a vegetarian nacho dog with veggie-based hot dogs or sausages, or replace the hot dog with beans or grilled vegetables.
Frequently Asked Questions
Absolutely! If you prefer, you can first grill the hot dogs, to give them a nice smoky flavor from the grill. I still recommend baking them in the buns after in order to toast the buns and melt the cheese!
It is best to each these nacho dogs at the same time as you make them, so I recommend only making as many as you think will be eaten! You can store all of the components separately and warm them up in the oven if you need to make more!

My two favorites, nachos and hot dogs. Yum!
My two favorite things in 1. Nacho hot dogs, yum!
My kiddo is going to LOVE this idea. Great idea to combine two kid-loving summer finger foods. I am loving the simplicity of it. This is like a 10 minute dinner. Perfect summer food. Going to slice up some watermelon and call it a night. Easy. Thanks. Great pictures with the creme slowly dripped across.ย

I most certainly will recommend this website!
What does Bobby Flay call it when he puts chips on burgers? Crunchify or something like that. It took me a second to remember that dinner scene from What About Bob. It was good but not better than the Tourette’s scene :)
I’ve been SO out of the loop from our move and and finally getting caught up on reading blog posts —- this looks AMAZING! Been totally craving hot dogs lol… this is a must make for sure! ;)
