This soup is fantastic and is my base for navy bean soup. I also added 6 ounces of andouille sausage and carrots and celery. Thank you so much for sharing! Also loved the crock pot adaptation!

It is so good! We did add carrots and celery. Also used half low sodium chicken broth and half water. Definitely will make this again. Great recipe!

Excellent and simple recipe! I was looking for a recipe like this after honey baked discontinued or changed their old bean soup mix that my mom used to use with the left over Christmas ham bone to make my favorite soup of the year.

With the following alterations, I’m happy to report it’s just as good as what mom used to make:
4-5 smallish carrots
3-4 celery stalks
10 Bean mix instead of just navy beans
8 cups water (instead of 10)

This is a really good soup recipe. Used the leftover Christmas ham bone and the soup had nice smokey flavor. Will use this recipe again.

Instead of being nasty and trashing this recipe, you could politely say what you do differently and say you prefer yours. You should have taken more than a heat beat to consider that. Be kind. This recipe is exactly how a lot of people make bean soup.

This is my go to recipe for a delicious ham and bean soup! I always use the ham bone which imparts such rich  depth of flavors that you don’t get otherwise. We don’t alter this recipe at all because it is perfectly seasoned as is. Try it!! You will not be disappointed!! Thank you for sharing this recipe!!

I’m sorry, my husband and I did not like this. I’ve been making navy bean soup for close to 50 years and thought I’d try a different twist on my usual recipe. I made this exactly as the recipe was written. I think my husband summed it up best after he asked me what I’d done differently: “I don’t think that seasoning incorporated well”. He was right. I did take a heart beat to wonder if it was because we we’re used to my standard recipe, nope that wasn’t it. I am always trying new ways to make old standards, so we are both used to trying new tastes. For us this just tasted off. Ended up throwing the whole thing away.

Made mine with the ham bone and it was AMAZING!! So flavorful, my family just loved it. Goes well with corn bread.
