How to Make a White Negroni – Here is a classic gin cocktail recipe that’s light and refreshing, with a bright lemon twist! It’s also easy to tweak and make as a traditional Negroni or Sbagliato.

Why We Love this Negroni Recipe

We adore a classic Negroni that consists of good quality gin, Campari, and sweet vermouth. Equally delicious but slightly different, a White Negroni is a variation of the classic Negroni cocktail with a light refreshing twist.

In both recipes, the ingredients are stirred in a shaker, not shaken, and then poured over an ice block in a lowball glass, or in a coupe glass. You can add a twist of lemon or a classic lemon rind swash, which is just a larger rougher piece of lemon rind.

However, a White Negroni is a blend of good quality gin, dry vermouth, and Cocchi Americano, a Quinine-flavored apéritif wine. This combination is lightly floral and fun, yet elegant and sophisticated. It’s a great addition to your repertoire for those that love to imbibe in style!

Negroni Sbagliato Cocktail Recipe

The name Sbagliato roughly translates to “mistake” or “incorrect” in Italian – a reference to the drink originally being made as a bit of a woopsie… Instead of gin, sparkling wine was accidentally added for a bubbly white Negroni recipe. But it tastes so delicious, it obviously deserves to be in every bartender’s guide!

For this version you need:

  • 2 ounces sweet vermouth
  • 1 ounce Campari
  • 2 ounces Prosecco sparkling wine

How to Make a Classic Negroni

Of course, a traditional Negroni is always a hit as well! Including Campari is what really defines a Negroni as such. This not-so-secret ingredient is what adds those iconic bitter clove and cinnamon flavors to the cocktail.

To make a classic Negroni recipe you need:

  • 2 ounces gin
  • 1 ounce Campari
  • ½ ounce sweet vermouth
  • Lemon twist

Make it a Negroni Mezcal by swapping gin with smoky agave mezcal and the lemon with a sweet orange rind twist.

You also have got to try our Late Summer Negroni recipe, too! It has a more sweet taste with the smooth delicious taste of chamomile.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a white Negroni taste like?

The flavor of this gin-based drink is light, crisp, and floral or herbal. It has a smooth taste, with a bit of a tart and sweet finish thanks to the fresh lemon rind swath.

Are Negronis strong cocktails?

The ingredient lists for a classic Negroni, White Negronis, and Sbagliato drinks consist entirely of alcohol. So yes, they are quite boozy cocktails, but still refreshing!

Why not shake Negroni?

You want to stir the drink so that the flavors combine, but do not get muddled together. Stirring with ice versus shaking helps to lightly chill the beverage, without nearly freezing – and thus upsetting – the delicate floral flavors.

  1. I love the cocktail. I just don’t think of it as a Negroni riff with these ratios. The Negroni is a 3 equal parts drink, so it seems this should be as well.

To me, this is maybe more of a Martini riff; a 2:1 Martini with the Cocchi Americano taking the place of the oft-added orange bitters.

  2. This white negroni cocktail is so refreshing! Love the bright lemon twist!
