Refreshing White Sangria

Saunter into summer with a cool refreshing pitcher of white sangria! I’ve got a classic white wine sangria recipe for you today, with a twist. The secret ingredients in this pretty pitcher will keep your party guests guessing all summer long.

I think it’s safe to say the weather is warming all over the country.

After a long laborious winter, and a questionable spring, we are nearing a season of warmth and relaxation. It makes me think back on all the fun memories we made last summer.

One of my favorite family trips last year was a visit to Kiawah Island. We spent a week curling our toes in the soft sand. Watching horseshoe crabs rest off the water’s edge. Riding bikes under shady palms and live oak trees. And of course, eating seafood and sipping summer cocktails.

Sangria To The Rescue

On the first night we arrived, we drove onto the island late in the evening. Exhausted from the day of travel, and eager to get the kids out of the car, we stopped at a little shopping center to get a quick dinner and buy some groceries for the week.

All the restaurants were packed, so by the time we sat down to have dinner, this girl needed a drink.

I ordered a white wine sangria and sat sipping the sparkling fruity concoction until all the tension of the day melted away with the warm ocean breeze. After that first white wine sangria, the rest of our trip was pure magic.

Liquid Magic

Sangria always does that to me. And a white sangria is such a nice light beverage for summer, I love making up a pitcher (or two) when friends stop by.

This particular blend starts with a crisp sweet white wine. I used Moscato because it’s so naturally sweet that you don’t need to add simple syrup or sugar.

Instead, I added orange-pineapple juice to give the wine a tangy balance, and two secret ingredients: Midori Melon Liqueur and Domaine de Canton Ginger Liqueur.

Mixed Drinks Combinations

The combination of the cool melon tone and the slight spiciness of the ginger makes this white sangria an absolute winner.

I then loaded it up with cantaloupe balls, fresh sliced strawberries, and citrus slices, and let the mixture infuse with the fruit to create a lovely light beverage.

When ready to serve, finish each glass off with a splash of club soda to make your white wine sangria sparkle, and you have something truly special!

A beverage that tastes like summer.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do you keep the fruit in the sangria?

The fruit floating in the sangria flavors the beverage and also absorbs some of the liquor, for a boozy snack at the bottom of each glass. It’s best to let the fruit soak for at least an hour before serving. However, you can cover and refrigerate the sangria with the fruit for 2-3 days. After that, the fruit can start to taste bitter and lose its texture.

Which white wine is best for sangria?

I tend to use Moscato wine because it is naturally sweet. However the next best option, in my humble opinion, is a Riesling, then a Chardonnay. If you have a sauvignon blanc or pinot grigio in the pantry, you could also use them, especially if they are a sweet wine.

What other fruits can I add to my sangria?

I have also used peach, berries (raspberries and blueberries), or apples as a garnish in this sangria recipe.
