Bacon in the Oven

I’ve got a quick trick to share with you today, How to Cook Bacon in the Oven.

Bacon is nearly my favorite thing in the whole wide world. On a scale of importance, it pretty much goes God, Family, then Bacon.

Therefore, this girl knows her bacon and how to cook it to perfection.

So instead of cleaning up skillets and grease splatter all over the counter and stovetop, or worrying about grease burns, why not put your bacon in the oven?

Five Minute Fix

This isn’t quite a Five Minute Fix recipe, because it does take longer than that to cook in the oven. But it doesn’t take but a minute to get the bacon in the oven, so that should count for something.

Five Minute Fix

How To Cook Bacon In The Oven

The only thing you’ll need for this recipe is your oven, a rimmed baking sheet, some foil, and bacon! This is seriously a ridiculously easy recipe.

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Then wrap a rimmed baking sheet with foil. (The foil is not necessary, but it does help with clean up.)
  2. Lay the bacon on the sheet in a single layer. That’s it. You don’t even need to flip it.
  3. Bake for 15-25 minutes (depending on thickness of the bacon) until it’s red and crisp, but not brown.
Voila! Crisp, yet tender, flavorful bacon, with the drippings neatly contained in foil. This is the absolute best way to make a large amount of bacon without a large mess!

Extra Crispy Bacon

Some readers have commented that they want to know how to make your bacon extra crispy. I persoanlly like mine a little bendy, but to each his own.

Simply put a metal cooling rack inside the baking sheet and then follow the recipe as usual.

This helpful tip allows the bacon to be lifted above the baking sheet, letting the strips cook from all sides, so they get crispy quick. The fat then drips down and collects below.

Leftover Bacon

You now have delicious, salty, chewy yet crispy bacon. Use it however you’d like… In salads, sandwiches or by itself.

And if you have leftovers, don’t worry about it! Oven baked bacon can be stored in a ziploc bag in the refrigorator for up to a week. Which also makes it a great make ahead food!

To reheat, add it to a hot pan to crisp up or loosely wrap it in a paper towel and microwave for a couple of seconds.

  1. It was delish, and amazing. I love bacon. Yum & Yum

  2. I always cook my bacon this way however I have found that parchment paper works better than aluminum foil. When I don’t have parchment I use foil but try parchment paper, the bacon is crispy but not as greasy.

  3. Love the idea of bacon this way… I am going to try tomorrow. Thanks Sommer and have a happy Labor Day weekend.

  4. This is my new favorite cooking tip – cooking bacon in the oven! I freeze the bacon, pull out one strip each morning and heat it in my toaster oven. This way it is hot and crispy in minutes. I cook several packages of bacon at a time so I have lots of bacon in my freezer for breakfast, for salads, for potato soup, etc.

  5. Love oven bacon!! But to make the experience even better, take 4 pieces of aluminum, and roll them together into a long piece. Do this 2 more times, and put them in your pan under your aluminum to make grooves for the grease to lay in. Less grease to deal with.

  6. It was delish, and amazing. Used convection bake for 17 minutes. Yum & Yum

  7. I was “forced” to do KP duty while I was in basic training, US Army. Bacon was cooked as described above. I have been cooking bacon like this ever since. Two things the Army taught me. How to cook Bacon & make my bed. LOL

  8. That is how my Granny cooked bacon, also, because we had a large family.  Great tips.?

  13. This is the only way I cook bacon as well, but first I spray a cookie cooling rack that is just slightly smaller than the rimmed baking sheet with cooking spray and place it inside the foil-lined sheet.  This allows the bacon to drip freely and not bathe in grease. I place it under the broiler for a few minutes and turn it once. A little messier to clean up but I get perfectly crisp,  minimally greasy bacon!

  17. I always cook my bacon this way however I have found that parchment paper works better than aluminum foil. When I don’t have parchment I use foil but try parchment paper, the bacon is crispy but not as greasy.

  18. i also use racks, but i spray w/pam so they are easier to clean.

  19. I put racks in my pan so the bacon isn’t sitting in the grease. I don’t like flub very bacon, so I cook mine until it is crisp. You can also cook sausage links in the same manner.

  20. It was a perfect way to cook thick cut bacon; took about 20 minutes because of the thickness, as you had pointed out. But cooking thick cut bacon on a griddle usually comes out with some parts overdone and some parts too crispy. This was perfectly, evenly done. Thanks for sharing!

  21. This is my one and only way to make bacon since learning the technique in culinary school. FABULOUS!

  22. We have been cooking it in the oven ever since we discovered this easy method! Two tips I can give is to make sure you start with a cold pan as this helps to keep the bacon flat and, use a broiler pan so that some of the drippings fall away from the bacon (healthy Bacon! – yeah right…)

  23. My mom had a recipe for bacon that you cooked in the oven, but you but brown sugar on it and baked on a broiler pan. YUM.

  24. This is my very favorite way to cook bacon! It makes such a big difference!

  25. Oven bacon is my favorite way to make it. Cooks evenly and gets the right amount of crispy.

  26. This is my favorite way to cook bacon! (Um it’s really the only way I can cook it without burning it haha)

  27. I love doing bacon in the oven. It is so much easier and a lot cleaner! Great tips!

  28. This is the only way I cook bacon. I love the minimal mess and super easy cleanup, and also that the bacon can get crispy!
