Skillet Steak Bites with Mushrooms
Skillet Steak Bites with Mushrooms – Our quick and easy Skillet Steak Bites recipe is perfect for feeding the family and sharing at parties. These steak bites with mushrooms are flavorful and rich… And low-carb!
I love red meat.
No, seriously. It is my favorite protein of choice.
There is no food more utterly satisfying than a juicy, melt-in-your-mouth steak. Savory and decadent, the right cut of beef cooked with a crusty sear on the outside and tender medium (or medium-rare) center is an absolute taste of heaven.
The problem is that, well, my entire family feels the same way…
Cooking a bounty of steaks for a large family can be pretty costly, and typically doesn’t do well for feeding several guests at parties. But our Skillet Steak Bites with Mushrooms recipe is a genius way to get terrific flavor from an inexpensive piece of red meat, and create a quick dish that can feed a crowd!

Ingredients You Need
In any good steak recipe, you want the beef to be the star of the show.
The handful of other ingredients in this easy steak and mushrooms recipe are mostly simple pantry staples, and work together wonderfully to unite the savoriness of the meat with the earthy mushrooms.
Here are the ingredients you need for our Skillet Steak Bites with Mushrooms:
- Olive oil
- Sirloin steak
- Butter
- Garlic
- Button mushrooms
- Cooking sherry
- Beef base (or concentrate)
- Seasonings – dried thyme, chopped parsley, salt and pepper
- Creamy Garlic Dressing or Caesar Dressing for dipping
You can use other cuts of steak, but sirloin in ideal for this recipe because it’s lean, inexpensive, and a great platform for seasoning.
How to Make Skillet Steak Bites with Mushrooms
1. First, prepare your ingredients: Cut the sirloin steak into 1 ¼ inch bite-size pieces, slice the mushrooms in half, and mince the garlic. Sprinkle the steak pieces generously with salt and pepper.
2. Set an extra-large skillet (preferably cast iron) over high heat. Add the oil and swirl around the pan to lightly coat. Once hot, add the steak pieces and sear the steak bites for a few minutes, stirring every minute or so to brown on all sides. Remove the steak bites from the pan and place on a plate.
3. Next, add the butter, minced garlic, and sliced mushrooms to the hot skillet. Sauté for a minute, and then add the sherry, beef base, and dried thyme. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Sauté the mushrooms for 10 more minutes, stirring occasionally, until they are caramelized on the bottom and most of the liquid has evaporated.
4. Lastly, stir in the steak bites in their juices and chopped parsley. Toss and sauté for another 1-2 minutes to finish cooking the steak.

What Should I Serve with Skillet Steak Bites and Mushrooms?
Keep this a low-carb meal by enjoying with Baked Turnip Fries made in an air fryer, Roasted Cauliflower Rice or Cauliflower Mashed Potatoes, or with a side salad loaded with fresh greens and veggies.
For carb-alicious side dishes, I recommend serving steak bites with mushrooms on top of the Best Mashed Potatoes, or alongside a deep dish of Cheesy Scalloped Potatoes (Au Gratin).
As a snack or party appetizer, these yummy little steak bites and mushrooms are excellent when skewered with a toothpick and dunked in a Creamy Garlic or Caesar dressing.
Does This Recipe Work Well as a Meal Prep?
Yes, our skillet steak recipe makes great leftovers for lunches, and will keep well in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
I do not recommend making ahead of when you’re planning to serve guests or enjoy for dinner, however, as these steak bites and mushrooms are absolutely best when freshly prepared and eaten while warm.
