Air Fryer Green Beans Recipe – Air fry fresh (or frozen) perfectly tender and crisp green beans in only 10 minutes for a quick, easy, delicious, and healthy side dish!

Pile of lightly fried green beans on a white plate.

Why We Love This Green Bean Recipe

Air frying is a fantastic way to prepare fresh vegetables as a healthy side dish for any midweek meal! Cooking with this wonder device is fast, simple, and easy to customize – plus, using the air fryer keeps the stove clear for cooking other dishes.

You can use this Air Fryer Green Beans recipe to cook French-style thin green beans or traditional American green beans. Although of course, we think the fresh green beans taste best, you can even air fry frozen green beans! Either way, the fryer creates the perfect barely-cooked texture in less than 10 minutes, allowing the green beans to taste fresh.

We’ve tossed the green beans in a little olive oil and seasoned them with garlic powder, salt, and pepper. However, feel free to experiment with all sorts of herbs and spices!

How to Air Fry Frozen Green Beans

There is no need to thaw frozen green beans before air frying! This recipe works just as well for frozen-cut and long beans.

Preheat the air fryer to 380°F.

Coat the beans in the olive oil and spice blend, and air fry for 8-10 minutes. Give the basket a shake at the 4-minute mark.

Serving Suggestions

Green beans are a classic veggie side dish, and pair well with nearly any main dish! And it’s super easy to use spices that “match” your protein.

Pair well-seasoned air-fried green beans with super simple dishes like Smoked Chicken or Smoked Pork Tenderloin, Grilled Chicken or Grilled Salmon, or Baked Chicken Cutlets.

Or enjoy them as a healthy balance to heavier comfort foods like Smothered Chicken, Steak Fingers with Country Gravy, or Chicken Fried Steak. Go elevated and serve alongside Steak Diane (a copycat of your favorite Cheesecake Factory recipe!), Steak au Poivre, or Lobster Ravioli with Lobster Sauce.

Adjust the seasonings and serve the beans with Orange Chicken or Hunan Beef, Creamy Skillet Cajun Chicken and Pasta, Paneer Tikka Masala, or Pollo Asado (Mexican Grilled Chicken).

Frequently Asked Questions

Do fresh green beans need to be soaked before cooking?

No, there is no need to soak the beans prior to air frying. Just toss with the oil and spices, and go for it!

How long does it take to cook green beans?

Fresh green beans air fry in only about 6 minutes. Frozen beans cook in less than 10 minutes.

How do you keep green beans crisp when cooking?

Be sure the beans are rinsed and dried thoroughly, and are then well coated in oil. Shake the basket halfway through cooking so that they cook evenly. And remove them promptly when done: They should be firm and bright green.

How long do leftovers last?

Cooked green beans will keep well for up to 5 days in the refrigerator, in an airtight container. Although they will start to lose their tender bite after a few days.

Reheat them in the air fryer for 2-3 minutes to get some of that snap back.

Are Air Fried Green Beans healthy?

Absolutely! This recipe is gluten-free, dairy-free, nut-free, low-carb, and packed with vitamins and nutrients. These beans make fabulous healthy snacks and side dishes.

Why We Love This Potato Recipe

No meal is really complete unless there is at least one kind of veggie on the plate, amirite? Without a hearty and healthy(ish) element it feels like something is missing from the table. But just because a side dish might be “necessary” doesn’t mean it should be boring or laborious to make!

This Steamed Potatoes with Garlic Herb Butter recipe is one of our favorite ways to work in a tasty vegetable with barely any effort. It takes only 30 minutes to make, and is as easy as steaming potatoes and tossing them in a zesty combination of melted butter with fresh minced garlic and herbs.

Once you try this amazingly simple way to steam potatoes, I promise it will become a family-favorite side dish staple! In fact, don’t be too surprised if it gets more attention than the main dish.

Ingredients You Need

  • Mini potatoes – baby potatoes, or chopped russet potatoes
  • Butter – unsalted is best
  • Parsley – fresh chopped
  • Garlic – minced
  • Rosemary – fresh chopped
  • Thyme – fresh chopped
  • Lemon – zested
  • Salt and pepper – just a bit of both

How to Make Steamed Potatoes with Garlic Herb Butter

Set a large 6-quart pot on the stovetop and place a steamer basket at the bottom of the pot. Fill the pot with 1 inch of water.

Hand adding metal steaming basket to a large black stock pot.

If using mini potatoes, cut the larger potatoes in quarters, and the smaller potatoes in half. If using whole russet potatoes, cut them into 1-inch cubes.

Then place the potatoes in the steam basket.

Chopped raw potatoes in the pot.

Cover the pot and turn the heat on high. Once the steam starts to fill the pot, set a timer for 10 minutes.

Check the potatoes after 10 minutes to see if they are fork-tender. If not, cover and continue to steam for another 2 to 3 minutes. But keep a close eye on them so they do not get overcooked and mushy.

Meanwhile, chop all the fresh herbs and zest a lemon.

Melt one stick of butter on the stovetop or in the microwave. Mix in the chopped fresh parsley, garlic, rosemary, thyme, and lemon zest. Add ½ teaspoon of salt and ¼ teaspoon of black pepper.
